BOAT REGISTRATION

PROCESSING BOAT REGISTRATIONS

Boats that have been purchased new or purchased as a private sale not involving a dealer are handled somewhat the same way as renews. If the boat is not brand new, we need to know if it’s ever been registered in Maine before. This is important because once a number is assigned to a boat it remains with that boat indefinitely. If the boat has been assigned a Maine boat registration number we need the registration number. If you don't know if the boat has ever had a Maine registration number before, don't worry we will help you. You should have a copy of the bill of sale and a copy of the last registration transferring ownership.

No matter how long a person has owned a boat, a registration is considered "new" if this is the first time the boat has been registered in this person's name.

The "legal residence" for a non-resident should be the town the boat is actually moored, docked, or located in Maine, not his actual legal residence. If there is no serial number, a serial number request form is needed. The boxes at the bottom of the form are self-explanatory and must be filled in with the number that corresponds to the correct information.

Excise tax is based on the year, length and horsepower of the boat. You will either need to call or email this office for that amount.

Registration fees:

With boats through 0-10hsp - $10
