Maine Department of Transportation Dear John; I am writing to you to request your review of the Town of Greenville's previous request for a sidewalk to be installed along a section of Route 6 & 15 in Greenville Junction underneath the railroad trestle. As I understand the matter, you previously met with former Greenville Town Manager David Cota in Greenville to physically see this problem. The enclosed photos show the trestle and the problem with line of sight by drivers and also bicyclists and pedestrians all trying to make their way under the trestle at the same time in roughly the same space. There is no definite line marking where the roadway ends and a pedestrian walkway begins, such as a curb would provide. Still, both bicyclists and pedestrians use this edge of the road, and are endangered every time a vehicle passes them here. The proposals I have heard discussed but have yet to find in the six-year plan involve cutting the hill down on the Village-side of the trestle, and creating a sidewalk with a curb along this section of road. I understand the MDOT may have some immediate funding for safety-related projects. I believe this is the most dangerous section of road in Greenville, and one which deserves attention as soon as possible. Sincerely; John Simko Enclosures |
