May 14, 2002 Maine Community Foundation To Whom It May Concern: I am pleased to take this opportunity to submit this application on behalf of the Town of Greenville. The Moosehead Region Woods Tour is part of Forest Heritage Days, an enduring annual event which celebrates the modern productive forest shared by outdoors enthusiasts and timber harvesters each day of each year. Although only 12 years old, this educational and entertaining festival has been steadily growing in popularity. As chief executive officer for the Town of Greenville, I will gladly accept MCF funds for the upcoming Moosehead Region Woods Tour. Forest Heritage Days as an event is funded through donations from the public, local businesses, and the forest products industry. This year, the Town of Greenville and the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) have joined the volunteer planners for Forest Heritage Days to try to highlight the economic importance to our entire region of the continued productivity of the timberland within our county's borders. We believe this year's woods tour, with a focus on the economic impact of the manufacturers and the timber companies who operate here, will help strengthen the public's understanding of this industry and this region. Indeed, this year's theme is “Forest Products Industry: Alive and Well and Living in Maine”. Nothing could be truer said. Should you have any questions, regarding the Moosehead Region Woods Tour or Forest Heritage Days, please feel free to contact me anytime. I have attached a map showing our proposed route through Piscataquis County. Sincerely; John Simko |
