Lelia Mellen Re: NFCT / Moosehead to Umbazooksus Sectional Trail Project / Stewardship Awards Program 2003 Dear Ms. Mellen: On behalf of the Town of Greenville, I would like to express my enthusiastic and active support for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail Project; specifically, the Moosehead to Umbazooksus Section of this proposed trail. The Town of Greenville is ready and willing to work with the trail's local sponsor, the Natural Resource Education Center (NREC) and its designated committee to help bring this project to fruition. In particular, the Town is willing to let the section sponsor (NREC) utilize the Town-owned Preo Park for the landing of this section of the canoe trail in Greenville, management of which is still being detailed by the parties involved. The proposed trail represents an exciting economic and community development opportunity, and dovetails nicely with the work that the Greenville Trails Committee, (GTC), has planned for recreational trail systems spanning the greater Greenville area. To have a designated waterways trail system developed locally will not only add diversity to the trails infrastructure, benefiting both residents and visitors, but will indirectly support our local businesses and services as well. It is through the GTC, which is supported additionally by North Country Healthy Communities (NCHC), that a great deal of community awareness, promotion, and outreach for the waterways project may be achieved. Furthermore, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail Project will help connect our community with others along the route, which will undoubtedly help to market our region by making it part of a larger system.
