Substance abuse training at GMS postponed
Wednesday, December 20, 2006
GREENVILLE - A substance abuse prevention and intervention training program for parents originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Nickerson Elementary School library has been postponed until Monday, Jan. 22 at the same time and location.

This program is sponsored by LIFE (Learning in Families Everyday). At this meeting, LIFE will look at the serious issue of substance abuse among our Greenville youth. Statistics from recent surveys (Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) – 2005 and Maine Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey (MYDAUS) – 2006) taken by Greenville MS/HS and other Maine students display alarming figures that parents, the school, and community at large need to be made aware of and help to prevent, according to Dawna Blackstone, Union 60 School Health Coordinator. This program will look at these statistics, substances used, physiological and psychological signs and symptoms of use and ways people can communicate and intervene in our children’s lives to stop or prevent further use.

Blackstone, who will be the program presenter, can be reached at 695-2666.
