WHEREAS Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home continues to this day to provide irreplaceable services ranging from 24-hour emergency medical services to in-patient and out-patient surgery to skilled nursing residential care for the greater Greenville and Moosehead Lake region, and;

WHEREAS the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home is the largest employer in the Greenville community, offering over 150 full-time positions, and;

WHEREAS the economic value of the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home to the Greenville and the Moosehead Lake Region through payroll distributions and payment for goods and services is estimated to be over $12 million per year, and;

WHEREAS hospitals in rural Maine such as Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home face great financial and technological challenges in order to remain competitive and to be able to provide state-of-the art medical services, and;

WHEREAS Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home has devised a very strategic and achievable plan for expansion and improvement of its facility which will result in significant advances in medical care for the entire region, and;

WHEREAS the future economic growth and vitality of the isolated service center community of Greenville is dependant upon a strong and dynamic community hospital and skilled nursing facility;

THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved on October 20, 2004 by the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Greenville to comprehensively support the development plans and related capital campaign for the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home.
