By JONATHAN PRATT - GREENVILLE - Organizers of the upcoming 100-Mile Wilderness Sled Dog Race have added events to take place while the mushers are out on the trails. Educational opportunities will be provided for those in attendance that wish to see the racers off, and witness their triumphant returns. While the crowd is waiting for the teams to return to Greenville, the Appalacian Mountain Club invited them to a number of programs. These programs will be held at the Community House in downtown Greenville. The preliminary list of programs include: Animal Tracking Presentation, Identification of Winter Plants, Camp-to-Camp Ski Adventure, Baffin Island Sled Dogs, "Wilderness & Spirit: A Mountain Called Katahdin" (film by Huey), and Dog Sledding with Mahoosuc Guide Service. The programs are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. Stay tuned for more details as the presentation list becomes finalized. Organizers are still looking for volunteers, and those interested may contact Maryann Herbert at 695-2528 or Diane Bartley at 695-2811. And, of course, sponsors are still welcome! Among the sponsors last year were: Plum Creek Timberlands, Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, Bangor Savings Bank, Bailey Lumber, Moosehead Messenger, The Station Market, Indian Hill Trading Post, Bob's Farm, Home and Garden, C & J Variety, Appalacian Mountain Club, CES and Mountain Ridge Kennels. If any area organization or business would like information on sponsorship levels and rewards, please contact Cheri Goodspeed at 695-0789.
