"IN THE NEWS"

New Editor at Moosehead Messenger
Tuesday, October 12, 2004
GREENVILLE - The Moosehead Messenger is proud to announce the arrival of Ben Bragdon, who has taken the reins as editor of the newspaper.

Bragdon, who most recently worked as a reporter for the Piscataquis Observer, spent the last two and a half years honing his editorial skills. Prior to that, Bragdon worked in Washington D.C. in a governmental position. He was a 1999 graduate of Boston University.

“I’ve spent the better part of the last three years covering Piscataquis County and its close neighbors, seeing first-hand the challenges and benefits of living and working in rural Maine,” said Bragdon, who began his tenure at the Moosehead Messenger on October 4. “I am excited to join the great staff already in place at the Messenger, and look forward to helping the paper - and the community - grow in any way I can.”

As a reporter covering general news and sports at The Observer, Bragdon was honored with four Maine Press Association awards over the past two years. He also was named the outstanding member of the media last year by the Maine State Field Hockey Association, largely for his coverage of the state-champion Dexter team.

Greenville was part of Bragdon’s coverage area over the last few years, and he is glad to be in the Moosehead Lake region full-time.

“During my time in Piscataquis County, Greenville has been a community full of the ideas and initiatives that will help combat and defeat the problems mounting against rural parts of the country. I believe whole-heartedly that the solutions born in Greenville and Piscataquis County will be welcomed as saviors in similar communities throughout America.”

Other changes are afoot at the Messenger as well, including the paper now being on the stands every Tuesday instead of Wednesday. This has given our subscribers a “heads-up” on weekend activities in the Moosehead region. The paper will also be published 52 weeks a year from now on - no more late fall and mud season closings. Stay tuned for the next big change coming in 2005.
