REPRESENTATIVES SHARON LIBBY JONES ANNOUNCES UPCOMING PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS CAMP LOT LEASES

AUGUSTA - State Representative Sharon Libby Jones announces an upcoming public meeting for citizens who are concerned about changes to the traditional uses of Maine forests and lands

Representative Libby Jones is the House Chair of the Committee to Study Issues Concerning Changes to Traditional Uses of Maine Forest and Lands. Representative Libby Jones submitted Emergency Legislation last session in response to the recent purchases of enormous tracts of land in Northern Maine from various paper companies, and the fact that these new landowners might well destabilize the traditional relationships between the holders of recreational and seasonal camp leases. Already, some of the new landowners have cancelled some leases. Equally, the Committee will study the recent turn of events with respect to the possibility that there might well be the ending of ending the long history and tradition of public access along private roads, recreation trails and rights-of-way to great ponds, the following legislation has been put forth.

This Commission was convened this summer and will submit a report, along with recommended legislation no later than November 1, 2001. The upcoming public hearing will be held as follows:
Friday September 28th 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Cross State Office Building, Room 208

Representative Sharon Libby Jones serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. She represents House District 111 - Abbot, Beaver Cove, Bowerbank, Brownville, Greenville, Guilford, Monson, Sebec, Shirley, Wellington, Willimantic, and Kingsbury Plantation, plus unorganized territories including Barnard, Lily Bay, Harfords Point, Williamsburg, Blanchard and Elliottsville Townships.
