On Thursday, August 21st at 7:00 PM, the Blair Hill Inn Summer Concert Series is presenting Grammy Award Nominee, Mighty Sam McClain and his eight-piece blues band. This is our biggest endeavor yet and are very excited to bring such talent to Moosehead Lake. The group includes trumpet, trombone, sax, drums, guitars, bass, and organ. Consequently, this size of a group(and hopefully others) has required the construction a large stage on our concert lawn. Also, for the first time we have had to hire a professional sound technician and system to support the band, and we are paying a very large contract fee for Mighty Sam. In order to deliver this type of quality music, we need a great turn-out and we are requesting your support. We believe that this hillside is meant to be a music venue similar to the likes of Tanglewood in Massachusetts. Three years ago, we set out to see what we could do to bring music to Greenville and, at that time, were the first to do so. Each summer our series has come together in really exciting ways and is truly the most rewarding thing we do. However, thus far we have struggled to break even (and have taken slight losses when lodging and dining expenses are included). For a group like Mighty Sam, we need a crowd of almost 300 people to break even. When we have attendances that produce profits, we will be donating a sizable portion of them to worthy community causes, such as this year's High School Auditorium Restoration fund. We also will invest them into hiring even bigger acts and improving our concert facilities. We believe that this healthy cycle of bringing wonderful arts to the area, funded by those who enjoy it, and in turn benefiting commmunity needs is ideal. However, we need your support to attend or encourage attendance at each concert and especially Mighty Sam McClain. This concert is truly worth it! As Tom Snow, the jazz pianist who played here in July said after reviewing the sound requirements for Sam, "You'll be waking sheep two counties away!". Sam rocks and has a really big sound. His newest CD "One More Bridge To Cross" should earn him the Grammy and will be featured next Thursday. For those of you who have come to concerts, thank you! For those of you who haven't, bring a lawn chair or blanket, bring a picnic, we'll provide the beer, wine and soft drinks, and enjoy an exciting evening of incredible Blues Music. Bring a group of friends or at least tell a group of friends. Thanks so much for your support. |
