A little more about Big Daddy O and the Accelerators - Big Daddy O and the Accelerators return to Greenville to entertain music lovers at the Greenville Gazebo on Friday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m.. Big Daddy, who is Paul Tartachny, has been playing musical instruments since he was a child. He went "pro" when he was 13 and played with old blues masters and their groups around the Boston area. He went on to play lead guitar for the critically acclaimed group - Beacon Street Union - which topped the charts in the U.S. with its unique sound. Tartachny also played with Chuck Berry, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Jimmy Hendricks and Jerry Lee Lewis, to name a few. The music trade magazine, Cash Box, dubbed him "the funkiest guitarist around". Rhythm guitarist Mike Brooks owns the Brewster Inn in Dexter with his wife Ivy. Steeped in the traditions of Merle Travis and Chet Atkins, Mike has followed the road back to his love of rock and roll roots and the Ventures, as he provides rhythm for Tartachny’s lead. One of Mike’s guitar students, John Lilly, became rhythm guitarist for the popular rock group, The Hooters. Drummer, Dick Knipping, from Winterport, has been playing for about four decades. When he’s not with Big Daddy, he plays for Sista Sadie, a popular rock band that includes Saxophonist and State Representative Josh Tardy. Knipping played with the Mark Miller Band, the Rocking James Band and prior to that played at gigs all up and down the East Coast. Bass Guitarist Shelagh Talbot has played throughout the U.S. and parts of Europe and Japan as a single act - vocals and guitar. Her favorite gigs were in Osaka, Japan and in Las Vegas, at the old Dunes Hotel & Casino. With Big Daddy, she provides old-style rock and roll bass riffs for that authentic 50s and early 60s sound. |
