Moosehead Historical Museum offers trip to Shaker Village
Monday, August 11, 2003
The Moosehead Historical Museum will offer an escorted bus trip to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village and Poland Spring on Friday, August 22. Pickup points for this day trip will be in Greenville, Monson, Abbot, Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft, Dexter and Corinna.

First destination will be Poland Spring for a special tour of the Maine State Building, which was originally built for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition and later moved "home" to Poland Spring. Also included on the tour will be the source bottling plant for Poland Spring Water Company and other buildings including the art gallery, which is open for the first time in 73 years. Tours of the Poland Springs buildings will be conducted by a tour guide.

After leaving Poland Spring, the group will travel to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village for a guided tour of the Shaker Museum and Library as well as outbuildings. This is a very special place to visit and learn more about the quiet sect who founded the Shakers. Today, only one Sister remains at the Sabbathday Lake community, but thousands of people visit each year, as you will on our trip.

Cost of the trip is $50 per person, and that includes transportation, all admissions and lunch. A box lunch will be provided by the Poland Spring House and will include a pasta salad, wrap, chips, apple, brownie and drink.

Reservations should be made immediately by calling the museum at 695-2909. If no one is in the office, leave a message on the recorder and your call will be returned. After confirming reservations, checks should be sent to the Moosehead Historical Society, P.O. Box 1116, Greenville, ME 04441.

Reservations also can be made by Emailing.
