Daughter of Greenville couple wins teaching fellowship for science

The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation is proud to announce that Kate McCann is awarded a 2007 Knowles Science Teaching Fellowship. The fellowship began June 1, 2007, and is renewable for up to five years.

The daughter of Brian and Nadine McCann from Greenville, Maine, Kate earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical physics from Northeastern University of Boston in 2006. She is currently in the master of Science in Teaching program at the University of Maine. Kate worked in various teaching and mentoring programs for inner-city high school students as part of the Northeastern University co-op program.

KSTF, located in Moorestown, New Jersey, was established in 1999 by Janet H. and C. Harry Knowles in recognition of the importance of quality science and mathematics instruction to the well-being and future of our country, as well as in appreciation of the many dedicated science and mathematics teachers that helped form their lives.

KSTF supports individuals and programs designed to encourage and sustain young scientists and mathematicians as they dedicate their lives to teaching other young people, and to becoming leaders in the field of education. The Foundation is dedicated to enchancing the quality of high school science and mathematics teaching.
