GREENVILLE JUNCTION -Sunday, August 17 - 7:00 p.m. - The Depot St. Development in Greenville Junction hosts the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble, an Arcady Summer Music Festival Concert. For 23 years, Arcady Music Society has been enthusiastically fulfilling its mission to bring classical music to central, northern and Downeast Maine, with an emphasis on chamber music and youth programs.
The 2003 Summer Festival continues this tradition, offering an exciting season of concerts featuring some of the best musicians performing today. The Western Wind celebrates the special beauty and variety of a capella. Since 1969, it has played a significant role in presenting music from the middle ages, Renaissance, early Baroque, early American, and Jazz eras. The Western Wind has been acclaimed at many of the world’s finest halls – La Grand Théâtre de Genève, Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They have appeared on NBC’s Today Show, and their radio programs, which feature narrators Leonard Nimoy, Theodore Bikel, Tovah Feldshuh, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee are distributed by NPR and PRI. The ensemble continues to enlarge its repertoire by commissioning innovative works from living composers across cultural and ethnic boundaries. The Western Wind accomplishes its purpose through concerts in the U.S. and abroad, workshops in ensemble singing, and specially funded programs in New York City public schools.
