Friday, August 15 – 7:00 p.m. – "Music in the Gazebo" presents Under the Song Tree in the Town Gazebo located next to the Katahdin Steamship Parking Lot in the Village of Greenville. Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chair, a sweater in case of a cool lake breeze, and sunglasses to view a classic Moosehead sunset while grooving to Under the Song Tree. Maine songwriters Anni Clark, Dan Merrill, and Lynn Deeves come together to form Under the Song Tree, and with acoustic guitars, flute, harmonica, a variety of percussive instruments, and stellar three-part harmonies… their collaborations are soulful, witty, and infectious for all ages. "Under the song tree" was voted "Folk Artist of the Year" by Jam Music Magazine for 2002!
A little more about the players - Dan Merrill grew up in southern Maine and has been writing songs and performing since high school. In 1987, he was voted Male Vocalist of the Year in the Maine Music Awards. He scored a gold record for a duet with Canadian performer Joan Kennedy, and was a NewFolk winner at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas in 1995. Although his early years in the music industry found him in high energy cover bands, Dan began to focus on his own material around 1992. That focus gave birth to a solo CD, Revolution. He has since co-written, recorded, and produced CD's for others, including Tom Cornwell's 2001 release, Destination Known. He has shared stages with Patty Griffin, Warren Zevon, and Chris Smither. Lynn Deeves, like Dan, put in years on the New England Club circuit with Top 40 bands before the muse called. She answered with a debut CD all her own, called Connecting the Dots. Her voice is equal parts powerful and peaceful, and her solo performances have been earning her an appreciative and growing fan base throughout New England. Using her first CD as a supportive springboard, she jumped into her second release, appropriately titled Soul Food. Among many others, she has performed with Janis Ian, Catie Curtis, Greg Greenway, Ferron, and Ellis Paul. Rain venue: Ready Workers Community House located on the corner of Lakeview and Pritham Avenue. For more information: 207-695-2702 / susancrippen@gwi.net. |
