Police investigating Acadian vandalism
Wednesday, July 17, 2002
STAFF REPORTS - GREENVILLE - Acadian Railway officials got a unpleasant surprise last weekend when they discovered that five windows were damaged, probably by a BB gun, while their passenger train was parked in Moosehead Junction Township. Greenville Police Chief Duane Alexander said that a conductor heard a noise while he was doing a routine inspection and found the holes in the passenger car windows. "These cost several hundred dollars apiece to replace," said Alexander, "and because of federal regulations, they can't run the train unless they're fixed. So it causes a real problem beyond the damage." The chief said that he suspects that someone or more than one person fired the projectiles "while hiding in the bushes" near the old railroad station. Holes in the windows "are consistent with those made by a BB gun," said the chief. "This is a real shame. These people have invested a lot of money in the community and we're not about to let a few vandals spoil things," said Alexander. Anyone who has information about the incidents should contact the Greenville Police Department at 695-3835. All information will be kept confidential.
