Evergreen has been entertaining audiences in Maine and the rest of New England since 1991. Their musical style blends elements of folk, bluegrass, country and blues with jazz, swing, rock, and continental ethnic traditions in a seamless mix of upbeat, energizing acoustic music that appeals to a wide range of listeners. Smooth, tight harmonies, solid instrumentation, and original interpretations characterize their performances and make this unique band worthwhile listening. The band has recorded two CDs to date: Roots & Branches (1997) and Common Place (2000).A little about the artists:

  • Steve Chiasson is a veteran of the club scene, and has been singing, playing guitar and honing his songwriting raft since starting his first garage band in 1965. He has won a number of songwriting awards, and several of his songs have been recorded and released by various independent artists.
  • Joe Kennedy, harmonica player extraordinaire, first picked up the harp around 1968. He recorded an album with the Bluegrass Supply Company in 1982, and has since played, sung, and recorded with the Kennebec Valley Boys and Breakneck Mountain. He and his wife Nellie produced and promoted the Breakneck Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Crawford, Maine, from 1984 to 1995.
  • Nellie Kennedy cut her musical teeth on country, folk, and rock. She spent a considerable chunk of her career singing and playing acoustic bass & autoharp with the well-known Misty Mountaineers. With the Mistys, she recorded three albums and appeared on the MPBN show "Exit 13".
  • Chris Prickitt, two-time winner of the Vermont Family Festival banjo competition, has appeared with the Kennebec Valley Boys, the Northern Valley Boys, (with whom he released an album in 1975), The Pleasin' Keys, and The Reely Clever Good As Ever Band, (two popular central Maine contra-dance bands). Chris also plays fiddle and accordion, and can call a pretty fine dance in a pinch.
