Tuesday, June 19, 2007
Mr. Nadeau's 6th grade class at Greenville Schools was the proud recipient of a first place win at the EMHS Awesomebody competition held on June 2nd at the Bangor Mall as part of the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) telethon. Awesomebody is a collaborative effort between area schools and their local EMHS network hospital. Dawna Blackstone, Greenville School's Health Coordinator is the facilitator of the program, offering special instruction for this health unit each year.

Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital has been a proud sponsor of the event for the past several years. This year's project focused around the brain, with students collaborating with C.A. Dean's Occupational Therapy Department. "I was amazed with the knowledge the students had already gained in the classroom," noted Angie Levesque, C.A. Dean's occupational therapist. During a recent open house for the occupational therapy department, C.A. Dean hosted the students and walked them through various stations relating to brain injury and its impact on body functions.

"We are extremely proud of the students. Each year we are proud of the knowledge and professionalism the students display at the event," said Geno Murray, C.A. Dean's President & CEO.

The finale of the project was a public presentation of their research along with an interactive display at the Bangor Mall. With several area schools in attendance, the Greenville schools ended up with a first place finish. The prize for the top school is a $200 cash award. A pizza party was hosted by C.A. Dean at the -school for the winners to celebrate their success.
