Special visits and rare treats
Wednesday, June 11, 2003
Two very special escorted bus trips are on the schedule for the Moosehead Historical Society & Museum. A museum trip to Rockport and Cushing will be offered on June 30, and last year's immensely popular tourist train ride in Beauce County, Quebec will be offered again on July 2.

Those signing up for the Monday, June 30 trip to Rockport will first visit the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center to view one of the state's finest art collections. The best of American art of all eras, from the Colonial period through the present, is on view in the Farnsworth's seven elegantly appointed galleries. The Weyth Center is one of the world's most prominent venues for viewing the art of the Weyth family. Showcasing three generations of the first family of American art, the center offers the visitor a comprehensive survey of the Maine-related work of N.C. Wyeth, his son, Andrew Wyeth, and Andrew's son, James.

Included in this special visit is a rare treat -- a visit to the Olson House in Cushing. This historic house, made famous by Andrew Weyth's world-famous painting, "Christina's World," is now off-limits to buses, but the MHS group will be able to ride right to the house through special arrangements with the Farnsworth.

Cost of this day trip is $45 per person, and includes motorcoach transportation and all admissions. The group will stop for lunch on your own. Reservations must be made as soon as possible by calling the office at 695-2909 or writing to P.O. Box 1116, Greenville, ME 04441.

The Wednesday, July 2 trip to Valley Junction and St. Georges, Quebec promises to be a real adventure for railroad enthusiasts. This trip was so popular in 2002 that one day trip grew to five. Seats will sell out fast, so immediate reservations are a must.

After crossing the border at Jackman, the air-conditioned motorcoach bus will travel on to Valley Junction where everyone will board the "Trains Touristiques de Chaudiere-Appalaches" for a nostalgic two-hour ride through the pastoral countryside along the Chaudiere River to St. Georges. There will be an English-speaking tour guide in the rail car reserved just for our group, as well as live musical entertainment!

On arrival in St. Georges, the group will travel to St. Hubert, a popular local restaurant where lunch will be on your own. Following lunch, we'll travel to Father Nature, a popular vegetable market, French bakery and much more. A final stop will be made at a French cheese factory before heading home.

Cost of this day-long trip is $55 per person, and reservations should be made by calling 695-2909 (leave a message if no one is in the office). The Moosehead Historical Museum charters motorcoaches from Cyr Bus Lines, and these buses have bathroom facilities on board.
