The Moosehead Historical Museum's docent-guided tours of the Victorian mansion, Carriage House, Lumberman's Museum and more will begin for the summer season June 18 and continue through September 26. Guided tours will be offered every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 444 Pritham Avenue in Greenville Junction. A number of special exhibits have been established for the season, with the theme being "A Century of Weddings -- 1880 to 1980." Special displays in each bedroom of the Eveleth-Crafts-Sheridan Historial House will feature period wedding gowns of various decades. Additionally, both men's and women's wedding textiles will be on display. While the museum's Carriage House is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday for reading and research, the Victorian mansion, Lumbermen's Museum, sunken garden and other displays are only open to the public seasonally. Cost of the tour is $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Work is almost finished on the barn building restoration, a project undertaken this spring by Dan Wright Heavy Rigging of Abbot and D.L. Tarr & Sons carpentry. Artifacts stored in the attic of that building were moved to the Lumbermen's Museum last fall, and have now been returned to clean storage in the barn building. The first floor of the barn building will be used for various displays beginning in 2004. A number of tour bus companies have added the Moosehead Historical Museum to their itinerary beginning this year, and with ever-increasing numbers of visitors each year, the 2003 summer season hopefully will be a record year for the organization.
