Maine Woods Film Festival slated for June 28
Friday, June 06, 2003
MILLINOCKET, June 5 - The first Maine Woods Film Festival will be held Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Big Moose Inn on Millinocket Lake. The festival will feature home videos and photos from people who live, work and play in Maine's woods. Actors and actresses who are on the 94-member advisory committee of the recently formed Americans for a Maine Woods National Park have been invited to attend.

"I hope they come," said Gene Conlogue, Millinocket town manager. "I'm sure we can convince the Hollywood activists to give up the idea of a Maine Woods National Park by having them come to Maine and meet face-to-face with the people whose lives they want to change. It should be fun."

The Maine Woods Film Festival is being sponsored by Piscataquis County, Maine Woods Coalition, Maine Leaseholders Association, and the Fin and Feather Club. More will be added.

The festival will open with songs by Matthew Heintz, the Northwoods Balladeer. Heintz has written a new song for the occasion. Following the music, celebrities and notable figures from Hollywood and Maine will be introduced. Next, videos and photos will be shown. Anyone attending the festival is welcome to bring a video or photo depicting life in Maine's woods. Refreshments will include Moxie and pretzels.

Local artists of all ages are encouraged to design a poster to commemorate the Maine Woods Film Festival. A prize will be awarded to all entrants.

The Hourglass Alliance, also a sponsor of the event, will present its "Time is Running Out" award to organizers of the festival.
