Greenville's Beaver Creek Homes ready for grand opening
Thursday, May 30, 2002
By MIKE LANGE - GREENVILLE - For those who have been curious about the new building on Route 15 south of Indian Hill Trading Post, there are two answers.
    * It's going to be the new office of Muzzy/Century 21 Real Estate.
    * It's also the first Pro-Fab home to be built in the Greenville area.

Muzzy/Century 21 owner Luke Muzzy and sales agent Joe DiAngelo are partners in a new enterprise, Beaver Creek Homes, the exclusive distributor for Pro-Fab housing in the Moosehead Lake and Penquis regions. As Muzzy puts it, "What better way to advertise how nice these homes are than to move into one ourselves?"

Pro-Fab homes are built in a highly-sophisticated, climate-controlled factory Vallee Jonction, Quebec to standards that "meet or exceed Maine building codes," said DiAngelo. Exterior walls are all 2 by 6-inch construction with R-20 insulation - R-40 in the roof area - and and the floors are all 3/4-inch tongue-and-groove plywood.

Prices start in the mid-$40,000 range and the homes are delivered 70 to 75 percent complete, DiAngelo said. "A lot of items that are optional in some manufactured homes are stock in the Pro-Fabs. You'll have windows, doors, even electrical outlets already installed before the finishing touches are put on the home," said DiAngelo.

Beaver Creek Homes was founded to give customers another housing option, said Muzzy. "We're not here to compete with log home or stick-built contractors. For one thing, the inventory of available homes in the region is low, although land is available. A Pro-Fab home is ideal for someone who wants a house built in a 3-month time frame," Muzzy said.

The Beaver Creek Homes partners also said that they plan to purchase most of their material to finish up the homes locally. "Joe's our expert in that," Muzzy said, referring to DiAngelo's five years experience with Hammond Lumber Company.

Another sign of the flexibility of Pro-Fab homes will be evident once the new Pro-Fab Muzzy/Century 21 office is finished in late June. While some homes have cedar shake or vinyl siding, the new real estate office will have a log exterior.

While Pro-Fab homes may be new to the Moosehead Lake region, the company has already made its mark in Jackman. Bishop's Motel was also built in the Quebec factory several years ago and transported to the northern Somerset County town in sections via truck.

DiAngelo can be reached at 695-3731 or at Joe@c21muzzy.com.

Pro-Fab also has a Web site at www.profab.ca.
