Greenville FD gets King Foundation grant for new truck
Tuesday, May 22, 2007
GREENVILLE - Stephen King made his name by writing novels that terrify. But he recently wrote something that should make Greenville residents smile - a check for $25,000 to the Greenville Fire Department.

The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation recently awarded the $25,000 grant to the fire department to be used toward the purchase of a 4x4 truck. The Greenville FD is in the process of replacing a passenger and equipment vehicle utilized in off-road situations. That vehicle has been deemed unsafe for carrying firefighters to the scene of a fire or accident, and the department needs a vehicle to bring firefighters to some of the more remote sections of its coverage area.

"This is a tremendous award," said Fire Chief John Cobb. "That is going to put us in a great position."

Firefighter Bruce Reed wrote the application to the King Foundation.
