Maple Syrup Brunch coming soon
Tuesday, March 04, 2008
SHIRLEY, ME - Now that March has finally arrived, Spring cannot be far behind, and what a better way to celebrate the arrival of warmer weather than the annual Maple Syrup Brunch, sponsored by the Shirley Community Church.

The Maple Syrup Brunch will be held at the Shirley Town Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. This will be the 12th annual brunch, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. In 2007, over 300 hungry folks showed up to enjoy the meal and fellowship.

It is widely known that the town of Shirley Mills has some of the best cooks in the Moosehead region, and many of them will be at work preparing pancakes (two kinds, blueberry and "regular"), two kinds of baked beans, breakfast casseroles, hash browns, muffins, biscuits, fruit cup, juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Everything is homemade and the pancakes are prepared as people walk through the serving line.

One of the best features of the Maple Syrup Brunch is freshly made syrup direct from Charlie Baker's Sugar Shack. The delicious North Woods treat is fresh from the tree and you can pour it all over the goodies with which you've loaded your plate.

Admission will be by donation, with income going to the Shirley Community Church's operating fund. This is the church's major fundraiser event of the year. There are several projects to be completed this year, including a new well to hook into the septic system installed last year, as well as renovations to the bathroom and kitchen area. The Maple Syrup Brunch also provides resources for upleep and ongoing activities at the "Church on the Hill."

After brunch, people will be invited to head up West Road and look for signs directing them to Baker's Sugar Shack, where Charlie and Debi Lynne Baker will be on hand to demonstrate maple syrup being produces (weather permitting).

Due to the Maple Syrup Brunch starting at 11:00 a.m. on April 6, the regular Sunday worship service will begin at 9 a.m. This will be an hour earlier thatn the usual 10 a.m. service. Everyone is invited to attend church then drive or walk down to the town hall for the brunch.

To reach the Shirley Town Hall of Shirley Community Church from the north, head south on Route 15 and turn right onto the Upper Shirley Corner Road and follow it to the church and town hall. From the south (Monson, Dover-Foxcroft, etc.), head north on Route 15 to the Lower Shirley Corner Road and follow it. For more information about the brunch, contact Rev. Dr. Everett L. Parker at 695-3163.
