To Whom It May Concern; The Town of Greenville wishes to lend its support for a multi-use trail project encircling our community. The proposed North Woods Loop Trail, also known as the Moosehead Lake Hiking Trail, is a 112 mile trail system which connects the hiker or backpacker from the Appalachian Trail near Big Wilson Stream in Eilliotsville to Moosehead Lake via Kokadjo and Elephant, Baker, Big Spencer and Little Spencer Mountains. The proposed trail also would pass Mount Kineo and make use of a shuttle service across Moosehead Lake to Rockwood, then Big Moose and Little Moose Mountains, as well as Moxie Pond, Mosquito Mountain and reconnecting with the Appalachian Trail atop Pleasant Pond Mountain. We understand that this proposed hiking trail will, where applicable, be made into a multi-use trail. We further understand and appreciate that this proposed trail would NOT be an extension of the federally-authorized Appalachian Trail, but rather a local effort to secure additional recreational opportunities within the Moosehead Lake Region without incurring a presence or ownership by the federal government. With these aspects understood and carried out, the Town of Greenville lends its support to this project. We see the proposed North Woods Loop Trail as a valuable addition to our recreational infrastructure, one which will not infringe upon our necessary forest products industries, but will rather encourage greater use of and appreciation for the North Maine Woods.
