mark your calendar Pet Abuse and Safe Havens - Womancare in partnership with the Linkage Project, Humane Society, Animal Welfare Program, and the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence, is offering an educational workshop about the link between pet abuse and intimate partner violence, as well as creating a safe haven for pets. Learn how inter-agency communication and cross-training benefits our primary mission of protecting victims and preventing violence. Find out what resources already exist in your community and how to utilize them to help prevent and eliminate abuse in all its forms. By becoming informed, spreading the word and reporting suspected abuse, you can help stop violence against pets and people in your community. mark your calendar Spring is the season for stocking ponds with trout. The Annual Trout Sale will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 11:30AM for customers who have preordered through the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD). Rainbow and brook trout for stocking ponds may be preordered until Thursday, May 1st.

A permit is required by the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department (IFW) for the species most appropriate for your pond. A copy of this will need to be submitted with your preorder. You will also need to bring your original to the sale in order to receive your trout. If you do not have a permit you may pick up an application for this from the PCSWCD office, download the permit application from our website, or contact the IFW at 287 - 5261 or http://www.state.me.us/ifw/. Rabies shots are 15.00 and Micro Chips are 35.00.
Nail trims are 5.00.
Proceeds go to Adoptions Plus to help the stray animals at the Pet Motel find their forever homes.
In order to license your dogs you must have an up to date rabies shot and it is state law that all cats must possess a valid rabies shot.

This event falls on the on the second weekend in August annually. “A yearly celebration of the Moosehead Lake Region’s heritage & history!” Some of this year’s events include: Area Woods Tours, Educational Forestry exhibits, a craft fair & logging games. The Fly-In occurs the weekend after Labor Day. The weekend consists of Float Plane competitions, educational exhibits, the Moosehead Lake Region’s largest craft fair, lots of food and much more. Land and float plane pilots from all over the country and world fly to our waters to enjoy this yearly tradition at Moosehead.

On the Sunday of each Columbus Day weekend, runners from near and far will line up and compete with each other and the landscape. Always a great time, with nice views of Moosehead Lake, and some good competition, along the way!

Voucher program for child care costs
mark your calendar The Resource Development Center at Penquis Community Action Program is accepting applications for the voucher program to help income-eligible families that are working or going to school pay for child care expenses. These vouchers can be used in a variety of childcare settings, including Family Child Care, Child Care Centers and Friend or Relative Child Care, if the caregiver passes the state background checks. Families of two can earn up to $33,770 and a family of four can earn up to $49,661 to qualify for child care assistance.
